Women's History Month Women have not always been recognized for their contributions in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This essay contest challenges students, girls and boys, to discover and publicize women who made a difference in the sciences and tell why the woman they researched is significant to them.

Prizes

First Place  $100
Second Place  $50
Honorable Mention  $25

Winners will be notified by telephone.

Prizes will be awarded at a Women's History Month reception at the Appleton Public Library on Tuesday, March 23 at 7:00 pm where the winners will be invited to read their essays.

Contest Guidelines

  • Grades 6-8, girls and boys
  • Typed, double-spaced 500-word essay on a Woman in History with a STEM focus. Tell us why you selected the woman. What is the personal impact of her STEM contribution?
  • Include a bibliography or sources.
  • Submit entries, including the following information requested below, in an email with a Word document attachment to teen@apl.org.
  • Deadline for entries (March 1, 2010) has passed.

    Reception for contest Winners to read their essays is on Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 pm in the Lover Level Meeting Room.
