Women have not always been recognized for their contributions in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This essay contest challenges students, girls and boys, to discover and publicize women who made a difference in the sciences and tell why the woman they researched is significant to them.

Deadline for entries has passed (February 21, 2012).

Contest Guidelines

  • Students grades 6-8, girls and boys.
  • Typed essay on a Woman in History with a STEM focus. Tell us why you selected the woman and share the personal impact of her STEM contribution.
  • Essays should be no more than 700 words and should include bibliography or sources. All entries will be reviewed for plagiarism.
  • Essays longer than 700 words or essays without bibliography or sources will not be considered for the contest.

  • Winners will be notified by telephone. Prizes will be awarded at a Women’s History Month reception at the Appleton Public Library on Tuesday, March 13 at 6:30 pm where winners will be invited to read their essays.
